Pokemon GO passes one billion downloads

Theoretically, more than one eighth of the population of the world has installed Pokémon GO. Niantic have revealed that total downloads of the app have surpassed one billion in just three years.

Pokemon GO passes one billion downloads

Niantic have released two trailers in the last week on the Pokemon GO official YouTube channel — and now it has revealed the app has been downloaded a staggering number of times across Android and iOS devices.

Initially released on July 6, 2019, the game has constantly iterated, introducing a mix of features that draw from the series origins, as well as all-new mechanics.

It has also been wildly successful in terms of revenue generated, too — a recent report by analytics firm SensorTower has revealed that the app has generated an estimated $2.65 billion in its lifetime.

This makes it the second highest-grossing mobile game ever based on its opening three years — ahead of Clash Royale and Candy Crush Saga, and just behind Supercell's Clash of Clans.

With all the recent additions to the game — including the introduction of Team GO Rocket — there appears to be no danger of the game disappearing from the list of most popular mobile games any time soon.
