League of Legends: DAMWON Gaming wins the KeSPA Cup

DAMWON Gaming, freshly renamed DWG KIA, starts its 2021 year on an excellent note. The current world champions of League of Legends won the KeSPA Cup after a total domination of the competition.

Like every year, the LCK competed in its own tournament from December 21 to January 2. If usually the event gathers the three best teams of the KeG Championship (South Korean amateur tournament), and those of the Challengers Korea (which disappeared since the transition to the franchise system), only the 10 teams of the major league faced each other.

This first post-offseason tournament is above all the perfect opportunity to get a first idea of the changes made in the different rosters. In DWG KIA case, the departure of toplaner Jang "Nuguri" Ha-gwon (who joined FunPlus Phoenix), replaced by Kim "Khan" Dong-ha.

After an impeccable group phase (4 victories for 0 defeats), the team qualified directly for the semi-finals. There, they lost their one and only game of the tournament to Hanwha Life Esports, and finally knocked out Nongshim RedForce (formerly Team Dynamics) in the final. All three games lasted less than 30 minutes.

The end of this sixth edition of the KeSPA Cup marks the beginning of a (short) break for the 10 LCK teams before the opening of the Spring Split in January.
