Pokemon Sword and Shield Guide: How to Complete Dynamax Adventures

With the arrival of Pokemon Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra DLC expansion, there are now plenty of new ways to capture Pokemon and explore the landscape. As you make your way through the snowy banks of the Crown Tundra, you'll eventually be directed to special Pokemon Dens. Explore an intriguing network of tunnels that eventually culminate in Dynamax Pokemon battles.

It's a fun to join friends and challenge yourselves to capture new monsters. However, you may not immediately understand how to play Dynamax Adventures because it is wildly different compared to everything else in the game.

What are Dynamax Adventures in Pokemon Sword and Shield?

Dynamax Adventures let you team up with three additional trainers to explore Pokemon Dens. Inside dens, you'll find Dynamax Pokemon. Complete a special branching path to reach the Dynamax monster, then defeat it. You may have the chance to bag a special Legendary Pokemon, but only if you survive until the end. Lose a battle and you'll be kicked from your team and the den.

You can opt to go on single or Endless Dynamax Adventures. Endless means multiple chances at rare Pokemon and even more time to hang out with friends as you test your skills. Keep playing even after the main battle ends and see what else awaits you. The adventure ends at defeat.

How to play Dynamax Adventures

Once you enter a Dynamax Adventure, you'll be ready to start scouting lengthy dungeons with multiple Max Raid battles. You'll fight four battles each time you jump in, then face off against a legendary Pokemon from one of the past titles. This is your chance to get one that your heart's been set on for seven generations.

You'll have to select from a variety of rental Pokemon when you start. Yes, that means your severely OP crew isn't coming with you, so expect more of a challenge. However, you can swap in one of the Dynamax Pokemon you capture throughout the course of the dungeon to stack the odds in your favor.

You'll continue to explore the randomly-generated dungeon while deciding on the best, most direct path to taking out the Legendary Pokemon. The only information you'll receive is the type you'll face. Plan accordingly. Other than that, you'll have to rely on Berries, items from NPCs, and a few healing opportunities along the way.

The entirety of these new raids is all about seeking out a Pokemon you want to add to your ranks and then really going for it. The fact that you can't bring your own monsters into the fold is part of the fun, after all. You never quite know what's about to go down when you jump into one of these battles.

How to get shiny Pokemon in Dynamax Adventures

When you hit the Dynamax Adventure dungeons with friends or solo, you're going to want to keep an eye out for Shiny Pokemon. They're already quite difficult to procure in the regular game, even if you happen to be carrying a Shiny Charm. Dynamax Adventures are a bit more lenient in terms of how often you'll be able to bag a Shiny. With odds around 1 in 300, chances are you'll finally be able to say your Shiny hunting efforts paid off.

Finding Shiny Legendary Pokemon, however, will be a bit of a headache. You'll have to fight every Pokemon you come across and complete the battle. You're guaranteed to catch it if you throw any type of Poke Ball, but you won't know if you caught a Shiny version until the end of the match. So while it's relatively easier to catch one than before, you'll have to go through the motions with all of the challenges every battle first before seeing your spoils.
