While rumoured for quite some time, Nintendo has been silent on its plans for its Mario 35th Anniversary celebrations.
However, without much warning, the Japanese firm dropped a "Mario Direct" on the official YouTube channel, and there are several iconic games in the series soon to be released on Nintendo Switch.
These aren't necessarily remakes, but ports of the original titles, optimised for use on Nintendo Switch.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars
Let's start with the announcement that many fans have been waiting for — a compilation of Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario 64 will be released on September 18 for Nintendo Switch.
These are optimized versions of the games — in addition to having higher resolutions than their original versions, the games have been optimized for a smoother gaming experience on Nintendo Switch.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars also includes a jukebox mode so fans can listen to the soundtracks from all three games. Players can also listen to music on their Nintendo Switch console when the screen is off.
In true Nintendo style, this announcement came with a catch — Super Mario 3D All-Stars will only be available to purchase until March 31, 2021.
After this date you will still be able to play Super Mario 3D All-Start, but it will disappear from both physical stores and the Nintendo eShop.
Super Mario Bros. 35
This one was a surprise — a 35-player online battle in the world of the original Super Mario Bros. game. This seemingly takes its inspiration from the hit battle royale, Tetris 99.
Super Mario Bros. 35 comes to Nintendo Switch on October 1, 2020. It is exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online members, and will be playable until March 31, 2021.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
An improved version of Super Mario 3D World game that was originally released for the Wii U.
It will feature both online and local co-op multiplayer. Two new Amiibo figures will also be released, Cat Mario and Cat Peach.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury comes to Nintendo Switch on February 12, 2021.
Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit
A title that lets you experience the fun of the Mario Kart series in the real world, Mario Kart Live uses the Nintendo Switch system to control a physical kart.
Mario Kart Live comes in both a Mario Set and a Luigi set, and goes on sale on October 16, 2020 for a suggested price of $99.99.
Super Mario All-Stars
This classic Super Nintendo collection will be released on Nintendo Switch Online later today.
Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros.
A mini game console inspired by retro Game & Watch consoles, this will let you to play the original Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels, and a special Mario themed version of Ball.
Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. launches on November 13, 2020, for an RRP of $49.99.
