The Twitch Rivals Fortnite Showdown is a series of competitive events taking place over several days, with major Fortnite players and streamers competing against each other. It is a way for Twitch to bring new esports tournaments to their massive audience.
160 participants are competing in Duos and Squads between August 21–22 for the chance to win a share of the $400,000 prize pool. A range of notable streamers and competitive players are present, including Timothy "Bizzle" Miller, Williams "Zayt" Aubin, and Ryan "Chap" Chaplo — with one exception. Tyler "Ninja" Blevins is obviously not present, thanks to his recent decision to leave Twitch for Mixer.
However, some major issues in-game and errors in the tournament itself have led to the event not going as planned...
As you may know by now, the addition of the B.R.U.T.E has become a significant issue for the community. These mechs are charged with changing the true nature of the game by taking over the building system.
However, no real skill is apparently necessary to play using one of these robots, and both casual and pro players alike are seemingly done with it. After being killed by a player in a B.R.U.T.E. streamer Jack "CouRage" Dunlop decided to quit the $400,000 competition in frustration and protest.
He was not the only to made this choice — Fortnite World Champion Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf also quit, alongside Dennis “Cloak” Lepore and Turner “Tfue” Tenney. These withdrawals are sure to send a strong message to Epic Games.
A reaction came quickly — the mechs were nerfed shortly after. How long will they remain in the game? We're sure to find out in the next few weeks!
Faced with players' discontent, Epic Games finally decided to grasp the problem head-on. B.R.U.T.E undergoes an heavy nerf which takes effect immediately and mechs will appear less often on the map.
