Prins is one of the most decorated players in the nascent VALORANT scene, having won all seven Ignition Series events in Europe with G2 Esports.
In signing for EXCEL, he will assume the role of captain, and help build a roster that aims to compete at the highest level in the Riot Games esport.
As yet, the remaining players on the roster are unknown.
“I am really excited to have found a home with EXCEL Esports," Prins said. "Since starting my journey in VALORANT I have showcased my ability to not only win trophies but grow and adapt my playstyle. I can’t wait to show everyone what we can achieve.”
In a statement, EXCEL said they have chosen to prioritise signing a captain and coaching staff in order to 'build a roster that will have the infrastructure and performance support to compete at the highest level'.
The British organization said it has been hosting trials that utilise both personality and performance tests to help find the right fit.
“Ever since VALORANT was first announced we knew it was going to be a title with huge potential and one that we could thrive in," said Kieran Holmes-Darby, EXCEL co-founder and Chief Gaming Officer.
"However when it came to expansion we really wanted to take our time and find players and coaches that aligned with our vision so when we started talking to Davidp it felt like such a natural fit. We have big ambitions and are looking for the best and most promising talent to build out the roster and create a lasting legacy.”
This marks the first new esport for EXCEL since a major rebrand four months ago.
Since ascension to Riot Games' League of Legends European Championship in 2019, they have signed Fortnite prodigy Jaden "Wolfiez" Ashman, and signed Tottenham Hotspur and England footballer Dele Alli as a global ambassador.
The deal between British esports organization EXCEL Esports and Tottenham Hotspur and England midfielder Dele Alli will support the teams with his experience of competition at the highest level.
