AfreecaTV, a long-time staple in the StarCraft esports scene, has announced that it will no longer host an official broadcast in English for its renowned ASL events.

South Korean streaming service AfreecaTV has announced that it will no longer be hosting an official English stream for its StarCraft League events. Third-party streams will still be allowed for community members who want to provide English coverage, and can apply on AfreecaTV's site.

The announcement is a massive disappointment for the StarCraft II esports community. Led by iconic caster duo Dan "Artosis" Stemkoski and Nicolas "Tasteless" Plott, the AfreecaTV StarCraft League (ASL) was one of the consistent events to keep English-speaking fans in touch with the ongoings of the South Korean scene.

AfreecaTV launched the tournament series back in 2016 with a prize pool of 24 million Korean Won (roughly $21,000 USD), and continued to grow over the years. Its last edition, ASL Season 10, concluded in November last year with a prize pool of ₩80 million Won (roughly $72,000 USD).

It's definitely a sad day for all Starcraft fans, but to be clear, "The announcement is a massive disappointment for" Starcraft 1 specifically, not "Starcraft II". ASL is a Starcraft 1 tournament.
