League of Legends: Riot Games finally speaks out on MMR changes

There has been some discontent in the League of Legends community since the 10.24 patch was deployed. Many players had been complaining about having illogical LP gains and losses in their games. The game's support even advised the players concerned not to play in ranked during the pre-season, since the competitive season was over. Still, people who play in ranked between two seasons are indispensable since they allow Riot Games to better adjust the MMR algorithm.

This fluctuation in PL was actually due to a change led by Riot Games in the MMR. There is nothing wrong with adjusting the game's algorithm, the only problem here was that the studio did not disclose the information to the players, who had to deal with significant PL losses. Today, Riot is fixing the situation and is finally communicating officially on the subject.

The main purpose of these MMR changes is to reduce PL gains and losses slightly on average. The rankings will be reinitialized at the beginning of the season so that players will remain closer to the rankings they achieved this year.

After finally clarifying the situation regarding LP gains and losses, the studio also unveils its ambitions regarding the progression of the pre-season. Three priorities emerge:

  • Overall stability and pacing
  • Overall balance of classes and positions
  • Individual choice of items, stability and satisfaction

The priority we are most interested in — and on which we hope Riot Games will soon achieve a decent result — is of course the balancing of the different classes of champions. The omnipresence of tanks in the meta does not please everyone, and next patch should help by buffing ADCs and nerfing tanks.
