The online-only 2020 All-Star Event, the last competitive League of Legends event of the year, will be held in December.

League of Legends 2020 All-Star Event starts on December 18

The League of Legends' World Championship aired last month and crowned DAMWON Gaming champions. There remains only one last international competition of the year: the traditional season-ending All-Star Event.

From December 18-20, super-teams from different regions - made up according to fans' votes - will compete to prove that their league is the best.

Some major changes are expected for this 2020 edition. The tournament will be held online - due to the current coronavirus crisis - and minor regions will take part.

Format

Since the All-Star Event will be held online, pros and influencers will perform from home or from a regional studio. This involves a new format, split into two phases: Underdog Uprising and Superstar Showdown.

Underdog Uprising

On Friday, December 18, neighboring regions will compete throughout the day. Small regions will try to overthrow their more established neighbors. The teams will be made up of top pros selected by the fans.

Superstar Showdown

On December 19 and 20, three super-teams from the LCK, LCS, LEC and LPL will compete against each other. The LCK and LPL will take the stage virtually on Saturday, while the LCS and LEC will play on Sunday.

A special 1v1 competition organized by Red Bull will also take place within these four regions. The first stage will be broadcast on the 18th, then the semi-final and the final will be live on the 19th and 20th.

LCK & LPL - Saturday December 19

  • Queue Kings & Legends: Non-professionals will face each other in a BO1.
  • All-Stars: The five pros with the most votes in the LCK and LPL will play a two-game winning duel. You can expect surprises in the format.

LCS & LEC - Sunday, December 20

  • Queue Kings & Legends: Non-professionals will battle it out in a winning round on Summoner's Rift.
  • All-Stars: The players with the most votes in the LCS and LEC will form “dream teams” made up of five players in total. Each captain will choose at least 2 pros in each region. These teams will then compete in two winning rounds.

The All-Star Event will be working for good causes, as most of the games will involve prize money to be donated to charity.

On top of that, the new Elderwood Ornn skin will be on sale for 1350 RP starting December 17. All proceeds will be donated to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund.
