Following the controversial news that Activision Blizzard are to close their premises in Versailles and The Hague, a fresh round of layoffs are being reported in the APAC region by industry site MCV/DEVELOP.

Activision Blizzard to lay off more employees

The controversy at Actvision Blizzard continues thanks to a recent interview between an anonymous source and MCV/DEVELOP.

The interviewee revealed that more than a hundred employees of the firm could be targeted, in what is another blow to the image of the company.

One thing many don't understand is the reason for so many layoffs in such a short period of time, especially after Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick announced in May that the firm wanted to recruit more than 2,000 additional employees.

According to the anonymous source interviewed, this stems from Actvision Blizzard's desire to transition its workforce to a fully-outsourced setup.

Activision’s part of the company doesn’t believe in community management and fandom. They think their games sell themselves. They’d rather pop a couple of millions on having Beyonce tweet about CoD than hire a bunch of good people.

An Activision Blizzard spokesperson gave the following reply:

We’ve been exploring how we might best integrate our capabilities across the business and be efficient as we evolve to meet growth opportunities and stay competitive in Asia Pacific. To that end, we have begun conversations with employees regarding a plan to centralize some roles across the region in our Sydney office. Decisions of this nature are never easy and supporting our employees through this process is our number one priority.

Activision Blizzard to close its Versailles office soon

The Activision Blizzard offices in Versailles should, according to some anonymous sources, close permanently soon, putting an end to the long years of presence of the video game giant on French territory.
