Moon named 2020 Overwatch League Coach of the Year

This year the Overwatch League introduced a new award entitled Coach of the Year to honor the person who has done their job better than the rest. The first winner of this new award is none other than Byung-chul "Moon" Moon, Shanghai Dragons' Head Coach.

While this season has been particularly hard — because of the health crisis we're experiencing and the decisions that had to be made — one team has managed to stand out throughout 2020.

Shanghai Dragons had only lost only three games throughout the season and one title during the year (Summer Showdown).

The Dragons made steady progress throughout the 2019 season, winning the Stage 3 title and barely missing out on the playoffs. In 2020, the team chose to strengthen their rankings to consolidate this progress. That's how Moon joined the Chinese team.

Moon went through several teams before joining Shanghai Dragons.

With Los Angeles Valiant, his results were good in the inaugural season but didn't allow him to stay after a series of defeats in the second season. After that, he joined Team CC — Shanghai’s academy team — leading the players to the second place of the Contenders China in 2019.

For the third season of the Overwatch League, he joined the main team with which he had well-defined goals:

"I wanted players to get to know each other and become friends quickly. So we all got physical training and got Chinese lessons before the season started. I made us all do activities together, and I think that brought the players together."

Shanghai Dragons now have a chance to finish off their dominant season by winning the Grand Finals on October 10.
