The collateral effects of the open war between Apple and Epic Games impact more and more players. Recently, Fortnite notified its fans that Save the World will no longer be playable on Mac as of September 23. At issue is Apple's refusal to let Epic Games distribute its games and especially its updates on its platforms.
Epic Games has already indicated that it will reimburse all players and purchasers of the Save the World mode — if they have purchased the game or played it between September 17, 2019 and September 17, 2020. The refund, which doesn't require any specific action from players, may be delayed in certain cases.
The battle royale mode isn't affected in the same way by the dispute between Apple and Epic Games. Mac users can continue to play it but only in v13.40. Logical, since Apple is also blocking the implementation of new patches.
Epic Games and Apple entered open warfare on August 13 after Epic set up its own payment system in Fortnite — bypassing the shop usually taxed 30% by Apple. The Californian firm then withdrew the battle royale from its App Store in retaliation.
New important deadlines will take place between now and the end of the month concerning this case. On September 28, a second hearing will take place in the United States. The first resulted in the Unreal Engine being kept on Apple devices for developers around the world who need it.
