LCS 2020 Summer Week 6 Power Rankings: Liquid take the lead

As we enter Week 7 of the League of Legends Championship Series, there's finally one team capable of contesting the domination of Cloud9: Team Liquid.

LCS 2020 Summer Week 6 Power Rankings: Liquid take the lead

For the first time in one split and a half of the League of Legends Championship SeriesCloud9 aren't leading the standings anymore. Admittedly, they have the same record as Team Liquid, but it feels like they're losing their momentum, while Liquid pocketed their seventh win in a row. The two teams seem to be playing at a completely different level than the eight others — and even Team SoloMid are three victories behind them.

Evil Geniuses, FlyQuest and Golden Guardians are right on their heels, all tied in fourth place but their future isn't at stake this week, as they'll probably qualify easily for Playoffs. The same goes for Counter Logic Gaming whose current record should be enough to secure their Losers' Brackets seed.

Things are just a bit different with 100 Thieves, as Dignitas and Immortals are just one victory behind them. One mistake and their hopes of qualifying for Playoffs might be reduced to dust...

1 — Team Liquid

Previous ranking: 2nd (+1)

Week 6 record: 2-0

From an impeccable to a perfect week, Team Liquid are thriving. They're now holding a seven winning streak record, and the last two allowed them to tackle Cloud9's domination and to secure a tie.

Amid issues they faced during and after the Spring Split, their perseverance, and their determination are the reason for their success. Prior to Week 7, they truly deserve the first spot

2 — Cloud9

Previous ranking: 1st (-1)

Week 6 record: 1-1

Cloud9 lost another game this week, and it just feels like they're slowly but steadily falling from their pedestal. In their shadow, Liquid seized the opportunity and took out the lead after almost eight months of total domination.

Cloud9 aren't out of the equation at all, since they're tied for the first place. Playoffs will determine who will reign over the LCS but, for now, Liquid deserve the first place.

3 — Team SoloMid

Previous ranking: 3rd (=)

Week 6 record: 1-1

Team SoloMid only achieved mixed results this week. Of course, they won against 100 Thieves without that much trouble, but we weren't doubting their ability to defeat teams from the low or middle of the standings. What's telling on the other hand was their inability to take down FlyQuest — a team that's supposedly less strong than they are.

Given their record, TSM deserve to be ranked in third but they'll have to get back on track if they want to keep that spot — because the four teams tied behind them are hungry for victories.

4 — Evil Geniuses

Previous ranking: 6th (+2)

Week 6 record: 1-1

Although they got demolished by Team Liquid last week, Evil Geniuses managed to beat Cloud9 — and this sole feat is enough for us to rank them as high as possible in our power rankings.

Given their current record, EG can't really compete with Team Solo Mid yet — but they're not that far and it wouldn't be surprising at all to see them secure the third place this week...

5 — Golden Guardians

Previous ranking: 8th (+3)

Week 6 record: 2-0

Golden Guardians achieved excellent performance during Week 6 — but let's be honest, we weren't expecting anything else from them given their opponents. A win is a win, and the Guardians pocket two more victories allowing them to get back into the running.

Currently tied with FlyQuest and Evil Geniuses, GG has everything it takes to step a foot on the LCS podium — but will they manage to do so?

6 — FlyQuest

Previous ranking: 6th (=)

Week 6 record: 1-1

FlyQuest are back with their old habits and their inconsistency. They stomped over TSM before getting demolished by Cloud9 — a pattern that we're now used to see with their performance. They're capable of taking down the best teams, but at the same time seem almost unable to control this skill.

Given their current record, it shouldn't be too hard for them to secure a spot in Playoffs, but the higher their rank at the end of the split, the better they'll get seeded. It would be a shame to be outclassed by Golden Guardians or Evil Geniuses during the upcoming weeks...

7 — Counter Logic Gaming

Previous ranking: 4th (-3)

Week 6 record: 0-2

Last week, Counter Logic Gaming lost against the two teams that are currently holding the last spot in the championship, which is absolutely telling. When they defeated Evil Geniuses during Week 5, we decided to give CLG the benefit of the doubt — but it seems that they just resumed their old and bad habits.

Once again, CLG, one of the historical LCS team, is just struggling to keep the head out of the water. 100 Thieves might play the role of a buffer, thus securing their spot in Playoffs — but they're only two victories ahead of Dignitas and Immortals, and everything can still happen during the last three weeks of this competition.

8 — 100 Thieves

Previous ranking: 5th (-3)

Week 6 record: 0-2

Given their record last week, everything seems to suggest that 100 Thieves were actually just lucky during Week 5. Or, at least, they benefited from the apparent weakness of the usual leaders of the championship. However, their results last week were telling.

Crushed by Liquid, beaten by TSM, the Thieves don't actually seem ready to relive their past glory. If they're for now supposedly qualified for Playoffs, they can't rely on their laurels: Dignitas and Immortals are just one victory behind them, and one sole mistake could cost them their spot.

9 — Dignitas

Previous ranking: 9th (=)

Week 6 record: 1-1

One victory isn't enough to save Dignitas from the current disaster that this split is and, just by a short mental calculation, you'll notice that they'd need an absolute miracle to actually make it to Playoffs.

Although they won against CLG last week, they were pretty much crushed by Golden Guardians, that acted as gatekeepers to the middle of the standings. Given the inconsistency of teams such as 100 Thieves or CLG, they might snatch a spot in Losers' Brackets — but that would spring quite a surprise...

9 — Immortals

Previous ranking: 9th (=)

Week 6 record: 1-1

There's no difference between Immortals and Dignitas this week, as the team both achieved the same record, against the same teams. There's no way yet to really differentiate them.

Until they grab more wins , they'll remain tied in the bottom of our rankings.
