It doesn't necessarily mean that the company has indeed a project ready to be published, but it's often a good clue to predict the arrival of a brand new title.
In this case, Nintendo registered the "Mario Sports" trademark in Europe and Australia.
Sports games in the universe of Mario are nothing new — at all. Actually, NES Open Tournament Golf, the first title of the franchise dedicated to sports, was released in 1987.
Over the years, Nintendo released a dozen of sports-related games for their iconic character, eventually publishing Mario Sports Mix in 2010 and Mario Sports Superstars in 2017.
