LoL, LEC 2020 Summer Split Power Rankings: What happened to G2?

Fnatic generally struggle when beginning a split but this time it was different. With a 3-0 record during Week 1 and the fact they were finalists last split, it makes no doubt that Fnatic deserve the first place in our rankings.

We were really tough with Rogue last week, as we believe this team has still to prove a lot of things before getting considered one of the best teams in the LEC. Their performance this week was astonishing but they only face low and middle-table teams. Rogue still have to demonstrate their ability to take on the usually leading teams, but they sprang a big surprise and their record itself is enough for us to bring them in second place.

Widely beaten by G2 Esports, it seemed natural to put MAD Lions below them in our ranking. However, the Lion cubs played a fairly good week with two convincing wins, which was largely not the case for G2. After last split Playoffs, we were expecting them to become real contenders for Fnatic and G2 — and we're not disappointed.

Let's face it: after their terrible performance during the Spring Split, no one was expecting SK Gaming to begin the Summer with such a record. Although their loss against MAD Lions was one-sided, SK clearly dominated Origen and Schalke.

SK sprang a big surprise, hence their current placement in our rankings — but they'll have to keep the pace if they want to stay there.

Although it might be surprising to rank Team Vitality above G2 Esports — and it is. The Bees are nothing like they were the last split. With their new roster, they managed to spring the biggest surprise of the week: winning over G2.

Compared to their seedy performance, this mere feat is enough for them to go up in our Rankings. However, just like SK, they'll have to prove that it wasn't just a fluke...

Although their record isn't as good as it could have been, Misfits played quite a good Week 1. Some might even say that they were supposed to win against Fnatic and that they've got their victory stolen — but we'd rather remember how good they were during that game, and how dominant they were against Origen.

There are still a lot of things to work on, but Misfits are definitely promising — on the verge of becoming one of the best LEC teams.

What happened to Origen?!

The last split, they were challenging and contesting G2 and Fnatic — and now they seem to struggle against the mid and low table team. They indeed won against G2, bu the Samurais were definitely underperforming this week. It remains to be seen if they can improve, but until then they'll remain at this rank.

There are no words except "poor" to qualify G2 Esports performance during this Week 1. Although they won against MAD Lions, a team they actually studied to win last split Playoffs, they were completely crushed by Origen and, above all, by Team Vitality.

The seven-times LEC champions looked beyond recognition, hence their current placement in our rankings.

We were seriously doubting about Excel Esports for this Summer Split — and we're apparently right. The team performance was pretty bad, and they'll have to prove everything if they want to go back into the running...

With three losses to their record, Schalke04 seem to begin the split just like they did with the previous one: terribly. The English team performance was miles away from what we know from them, and they'll have to seriously address their issues if they want to go up in our standings.

Until then, they remain bottom of the pile.
