LoL: MaRin to return as a coach?

Who doesn't remember Jang "MaRin" Gyeong-hwan?

Any good fan of T1 will remember the line-up that won Worlds in 2015 when the team was called SKT T1. MaRin was then playing in the top lane, alongside Bae "Bang" Jun-sik and Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok, and won the MVP title of the whole event. After that, he played for Afreeca Freecs, then flew over China to join LGD and Top Esports (formerly Topsports).

Towards a return as a coach

MaRin retired from competitive playing in 2018 but he hasn't entirely disappeared from the League of Legends scene. As pointed out by Korzion Esports journalist Kevin Kim, MaRin shared on a live stream his desire to become a coach in the near future.

A return that would please the most nostalgic of us

Seeing a former pro becoming a coach is nothing surprising. Several players from the SKT T1 2015 lineup already made their transition from players to staff, just like Bae "Bengi" Seong-woong who became SKT T coach in 2017.

However, the experience as a pro doesn't necessarily translate as one of a coach, and transitioning doesn't guarantee success. Lee "Easyhoon" Ji-hoon, who used to be compared at Faker, quite failed as a coach to pull Vici Gaming up.

It remains to be seen if MaRin will actually become a coach, especially since the former top laner is only considering a return next year...
