Traditionally, the month of May plays host to the first announcements of the next instalment in the Call of Duty franchise.

Call of Duty 2020: Is an announcement imminent?

Like the announcements for Modern Warfare, teasers for the reboot started appearing in May and soon after, a release date and official reveal trailer soon followed.

Due to the current global situation, questions surrounding a potential delay to the next Treyarch title were bought into the light but the Activision Q1 conference call confirmed that the game is still on course for a release in 2020.

If current rumours are to be believed, the game will be set in the Cold War and will have a heavy focus on the Vietnam War.

Is a Black Ops reboot a wise decision?

If it is a reboot of the Black Ops sub-franchise, it will be the fifth instalment of Black Ops, more than any other sub-franchise in Call of Duty history. In hindsight, Black Ops 4 had a solid multiplayer but its micro-transaction system was the main point of concern for the vast majority of players.

Returning to Black Ops may be a good decision from a marketing perspective but is it what the fans want after the success of the Modern Warfare reboot? A reboot could be the way to go, perhaps even removing the "Black Ops" name completely from the title and heading down a similar path of Sledgehammer Games and naming the game "Call of Duty: Vietnam"

When are the teasers coming?

According to reliable leaker TheGamingRevolution, several Treyarch staff members have removed their banners from their Twitter profiles, possibly signifying that an announcement surrounding the new release is imminent.

The May 14th upload continues to discuss the significance of May 14th, revealing that several in-game events and Steam discounts end on this date and also mentioning that it was the date that the Cold War intensified back in 1955.
