Is the PS5 release date set for October?

Update: 14:30 CEST

After being asked by respected Japanese publication Famitsu (link in Japanese), Sony Interactive Entertainment have responded by saying the job posting contained erroneous information, claiming that the error is on the part of the recruitment site Rikunavi and not content written by the tech giant.

Original Story

Up to now, Sony have been relatively silent with regard to their upcoming PlayStation 5 console, with the only real information given being the reveal of the DualSense controller and a deep dive on the hardware originally slated for the CES trade show.

Now, a job posting on Japanese careers website Rikunabi, reported by well-known industry news doyen Nibellion and originally discovered on Resetera, states that the PS5 console is "scheduled to be released in October 2020."

Roughly translated from Japanese, the job listing is for 'developing PlayStation platform business.' It appears to be some kind of buyer position, responsible for purchasing parts for PlayStation hardware products.

If this turns out to be true, this is likely not the way Sony would have wanted to announce the release date for the PS5. Rumours have been circulating of a June announcement, but nothing has been officially confirmed as yet.

While unfortunate, this leak may also force Microsoft into revealing the release date of the Xbox Series X, which is also currently unknown.

Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are due to launch late 2020, depending on the current situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, .

PS5 release will not be postponed

While many countries all over the world are currently in lockdown, Sony announces that the release of the PS5 should not be impacted by the due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
