Activision and Infinity Ward have officially announced Call of Duty: Warzone, the latest addition to the Call of Duty franchise.
Releasing on March 10th, Warzone is a standalone, free-to-play, cross-platform battle royale with no purchase of Modern Warfare necessary to get in on the action.
What's Included
There will be two modes to play in Warzone, Plunder and Battle Royale. Details surrounding Plunder have yet to be confirmed but judging by the official trailer, it looks to be a team-based mode that involves escorting a large amount of cash across the Warzone map.
The Map
The Warzone map is a combination of all Special Ops and Ground War maps from Modern Warfare. There's also some classic maps from previous Modern Warfare games thrown in for good measure.
Free To Play
This is the first time that Activision has released a free-to-play console and PC CoD experience. It released CoD: Mobile in October 2019, which has quickly become one of the most successful mobile releases in recent times.
The advantage of it being free means that you DO NOT need to buy Modern Warfare in order to play.
Standalone
This is also the first time there has been a CoD title that is a separate entity to the annual release.
This means that Infinity Ward and Raven Software have the ability to maintain support for it even when the new title is released.
