Are you more on the Dark side or the Light side? This is what Biomutant will ask you throughout your adventure. Here is a complete guide to help you better understand the notion of Auras and the consequences of choosing between Darkness and Light.

Biomutant Guide: How Auras affect your gameplay

Available since May 25, 2021 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, Biomutant offers you a real adventure where you are the hero. That is, in addition to controlling your character and fine-tuning their appearance as you see fit, you will need to make choices that will affect the storyline and your relationship with NPCs.

Is it important to choose between Darkness and Light?

At the very beginning of your adventure, just after the creation of your character, Biomutant will present you with a choice that will seem very important to you: go left or right. Rest assured, the direction you take at this point will not change anything as the story continues. But in reality, it is more complex and the direction proposal hides another important choice: to choose between the dark side and the bright side.

  • "I am dark red, for strength and power" = Darkness
  • "I am light blue, for freedom and loyalty" = Light

A second dialogue will allow you to confirm this choice. This choice does not have any consequences on the continuation since you will be able to influence your Aura throughout the adventure by choosing light or dark points. There are a whole bunch of ways to modify your Aura: dialogue, animal capture or elimination, side quests etc.

What is the Aura used for in Biomutant?

Making choices is good, but understanding what they are for is better! In Biomutant, the Aura will influence two essential things:

  • Your relationships with the main and secondary characters in the story,
  • Your special abilities.

Regarding the characters, you will quickly notice that some of them will behave differently with you depending on your Aura. But the most important thing concerns the main quest — during your adventure, you will be asked to choose 4 NPCs to whom you can grant a place in the Ark. Depending on your Aura, then you will not be able to take just anyone: some NPCs are dark and others are luminous. A luminous NPC will have a harder time accepting your offer if you have prioritized the points of the dark side for example and chosen the Tribe he hates.

Important note: you can completely choose to ally yourself with the Dark Tribe (JAGNI) and make light choices whenever you want.

Then, your Aura level will allow you to unlock special powers. Here is the list of powers that you can obtain in exchange for PSI points:

  • Sizzle Ball – 10 Dark Aura
  • Freeze – 10 Light Aura
  • Levitate – 20 Light Aura
  • Telekinesis – 20 Dark Aura
  • Ki Spark – 30 Light Aura
  • Skyspark – 30 Dark Aura

How to recover points of Darkness and Light?

Do not panic: in Biomutant, it is largely feasible to recover all the special powers linked to the Aura since it is rather simple to modify it and collect points of Darkness and Light. So there are several ways that here are:

  • Make dialogue choices : some answers will grant you dark or light points,
  • Complete the side quests to help lost souls: there are 23 to be released in total and you can choose to either help them (light) or kill them (darkness),
  • Capture Creatures : By capturing them with your net, you can sometimes decide to "pet and keep" (light) or "kill" (darkness).

Capturing creatures is currently Biomutant's easiest way to farm Aura points.
