How to start your journey in THQ Nordic's Biomutant -- here's some tips and tricks to help you understand the main features of this new action RPG.

Biomutant Beginner's Guide: Getting Started

Available since May 25, 2021 on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Biomutant is a new RPG describing itself as a "post-apocalyptic fable".

In this very original open world, you will have to go exploring to discover devastated regions. A great Scourge is at the origin of a pollution which is progressing quickly, destroying the Tree of Life. During your adventure, you will have to choose a Tribe and decide the fate of the world: let it implode to restart on a good basis or do everything to save it.

Classes

When launching Biomutant for the first time, you will be confronted with your first important choice: the class. When you create your character, you can choose its appearance, its breed and its class.

Currently, there are six classes in Biomutant:

Dead-Eye: A class with ranged combat abilities.
Commando: A class that uses heavy weapons.
Psi-Freak: Specialized in ki and power control.
Saboteur: Can equip a weapon in each hand.
Sentinel: Fights with long weapons and has good armor.
Mercenary: A versatile class available for pre-order only.

Choices

Paths

Taking a left or right at certain times in the story, or making certain dialogue choices, will affect your playthrough. Those choices will have an impact on your relationships with the main and secondary characters in the story, but the most important issue is the Dark and Light auras.

Aura

As you progress through the game, you will be able to make moral choices, and choose between Dark and Light. Those will shape your character, your dialogue options and even the mutations available

Tribe

At the beginning of the adventure, you will have to choose between the Jagni Tribe (Darkness) and the Myriad Tribe (Light). Both want to save the world from the Scourge that has taken hold, but the Jagni want to destroy everything in order to rebuild it, while the Myriad want to heal the Tree of Life in order to heal the Earth.

You'll have to face the opposite tribes of the one you've chosen. There are three Light Tribes and three Dark Tribes.

The choice of the Tribe at the beginning only affects the end of the story.

Tips

Don't rush: as an open world RPG, Biomutant offers you to explore various landscapes. If you rush headfirst into the first boss, you may miss out on some useful equipment. Take the time to visit and loot as many chests and Ultimate Weapons as possible.

Remember to allocate your skill points when you level up, you will unlock new combos and new skills specific to your class.

Don't forget to use Fast Travel to make your progress easier: exploration is good, but going back and forth between quests can sometimes be tedious.

Use mounts: there are about thirty different mounts. They allow you to go faster, but some of them even allow you to surf on water or glide through the air. You can get them either in the wild with Pip Fruits, at the Market, or via main and side quests.

Change your appearance: If your character's appearance no longer suits you, it is possible to change it during your adventure via the mutation zones. You will find them during your exploration (huge green lakes). In the same way, a NPC will also allow you to change your coat.

Learn how to use your Craft menu: if Biomutant allows you to pick up some pretty strong weapons during your adventure, you'll need to upgrade and craft your own equipment if you want to outfight enemies.

Upgrade your tools: it's possible to upgrade the crowbar and the Klonk Fist to open doors. This will allow you to find extra rare equipment.

Go and get the five resistance suits to explore the world: this will allow you to fully resist Cold, Heat, Hypoxia, Biohazard and Radioactivity areas.

Change the appearance of your Automaton: via the side quest in the message boards called "Old World Knowledge", you can not only learn more about the lore of Biomutant but also unlock skins for your Automaton. Note that this automaton can have very useful options for exploration, such as wings for gliding.

And last but not least, don't forget to save frequently! If Biomutant allows automatic saving, you should save your game before a Boss for or an important dialogue.

Could Steam be making a console?

The latest update from Steam seems to hint at Valve’s plans to create a console-like device, with the files referencing a “SteamPal” device
