C - Lance

The Lance is the ultimate defensive weapon, as it can block almost any attack and then counterattack. It has even gained in mobility in Rise, by combining the additions made in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and the bonuses related to the Petalace.

Its one big flaw is the same as in previous titles, in that it inflicts lower damage than other weapons. It's more than capable of taking down monsters in a reasonable amount of time, but just not the choice for big numbers.

C - Heavy Bowgun

Unlike its little brother, the Heavy Bowgun is incredibly slow and not very mobile, but it does have devastating heavy attacks, including long-range sniper, heavy machine gun, mortar fire, and more.

This makes its gameplay special, especially in a game where the monsters are faster and more responsive than ever. Fortunately, the ability to block attacks and strike back through the Petalace opens up quite a few options.

The way attacks work has also been enriched, with the ability to charge a shot before releasing it. Veterans of this weapon and new players alike will be able to find their way with the Heavy Bowgun.

C - Insect Glaive

Ironically, while all other weapons see their gameplay enriched by the Petalace, the Insect Glaive feels like it's just more of the same, which doesn't make a huge difference in playstyle or performance.

This is all the more obvious with the revamp of Wyvern Riding, that almost anyone can unlock pretty easily. Its damage is also a bit on the low side. However, it remains a unique weapon, capable of impressive aerial attacks, while Kinsect offers a variety of buffs.

We hope this guide has helped, but remember that this ranking is by no means definitive, We fully intend to adjust it as we play more and complete those all-important speedruns.

Monster Hunter Rise – Switch Review

After rebooting the series with Monster Hunter World, Monster Hunter makes its return with a new Switch title bursting with innovation set within a world that wears its Japanese influences heavily on its sleeve. But will Rise live up to its immense potential, or will it fall short?
