After the destruction of Sector 7 Slums, Cloud, Tifa and Barret climb the rubble to assault Shinra HQ. However, this giant mech stands in their way. Here's what you need to know about the Valkyrie and this Final Fantasy VII Remake boss fight.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Chapter 15 Walkthrough: Valkyrie Boss Guide

The end of the story of Final Fantasy VII Remake (first part) is looming on the horizon with chapter 15. But Shinra continues to make efforts to send us new mecha bosses to destroy in joy and good humor. After being harassed by his consequent aerial machine gunning, you will finally be able to defeat the Valkyrie.

Planning & Materia

  • A bench and a vending machine will allow you to rest in a room a little before the boss, this will allow you to approach the fight in great shape.
  • The weakness of the Valyrie is Lightning, as for all robots, but also Wind, as for flying enemies. We therefore advise you to have a Lightning or Wind Materia fitted to each member of the group. This will give you an easy option to deal critical damage to him and fill up his stagger bar. You should normally have 2 Elemental Materia now if you have completed all the quests. You must absolutely give one to Barret who will be able to shine.
  • Having one or more group members equip an Healing Materia is also highly recommended. Giving self-healing Materia or similar items to your teammates can allow you to focus on your own survival.
  • The Chocobos summon Materia is most suitable here.

Valkyrie abilities

  • Mark 98 Rotary Cannons: A deluge of bullets which deals fairly low but regular damage. There is not much to do against it.
  • Mark 99 Anti-fiend Artillery: Inflicts fire damage in an area. Try to dodge them with a quick roll.
  • Napalm Drop: Fire damage inflicted over a very large area. You have to sprint laterally so as not to be under the boss when it crosses the area while carrying out this bombardment.
  • Drill Dive: Drills into the ground and spins while moving around, dealing damage to anything it touches
  • Firewheel: The boss crashes on the ground and sinks with his punch. The characters below suffer heavy damage.
  • Limited Override: During the last phase of the combat, a mini-helicopter will activate a blue laser which will pursue a character. In the event of contact, a huge, much larger radius will touch the area and inflict extreme damage. It is absolutely necessary to dodge it.
  • Antipersonnel Gas: Leaves a purple puddle on the ground which poisons and, more dangerous, puts the target to sleep. This is especially dangerous during the last phase of the fight with the Artillery Surge, since the sleeping character cannot escape the beam. Try to dodge them from a roll.
  • Activation of anti-magic mode: Protects the boss from spells. You have to rely on Barret's ranged attacks as well as Cloud and Tifa's melee attacks to disable it.

Combat

  • Equip Barret's weapon with Elemental Materia + Lightning Materia to maximize damage. We therefore advise you to control him directly and give him the champion's belt. Alternating between heavy attacks (triangle), the special maximum Fury attack and basic shots will greatly slow the boss, or even block it at times. He will also be regularly staggered so just switch to Cloud or Tifa.
  • Cloud and Tifa will obviously find it much more difficult to attack it, the Valkyrie is sometimes too high or simply too mobile. They can cast spells on the boss when he is not protected by his anti-magic shield, or they can heal Barret, who will have a hard time dodging all grenades while he is trying to do maximum DPS. Preserving a portion of their ATB gauge for times when the boss is on the ground, however, is not a bad idea to shorten the fight.
  • You will still have to move with Barret during the last phase if the blue ray is pointing in your direction. Use consumables / dissipation Materia on the victim of gas grenades.
