Final Fantasy 7 Remake : Weapons, equipment and upgrades

Final Fantasy 7 Remake hasn't revealed all its surprises yet: with its new batch of screenshots from November 26th, Square Enix has lifted the veil on the weapons menu, but also a part dedicated to their enhancement. In this article, we will see all the information that can be picked up on these two screens.

Weapon system and upgrades

Each character in FF7 remake will be able to draw from a selection of weapons that will do more than just increase their attack power. Indeed, a new feature of this version is that each automatic sword/point/arm has its own skill tree, allowing them to enhance not only their characteristics, but also those of their wearer. For now, only images of the Buster Sword have been released, but the rest of the list echoes the Cloud weapons in the original episode.

SP and progression

In the example illustrated above, the Buster Sword is level 3 and requires an additional 5 SPs to move to the next level, for a cap that appears to be set at lvl5. This is probably the number of SPs spent in the tree of the same weapon that is counted. Not to be confused with the APs which are used to improve the materias.

Stats

Each weapon offers its own bonuses, offensive and defensive: no way to confirm this for the moment, but it seems that SE has preferred to remove the armor, or even the rings, in order to get everything on the weapons. Going deeper, the reason could be a quick weapons swap, which would allow you to adapt in a split second to the type of enemy you're facing, with the right resistances and elemental attacks. In order, the icons in the image below represent: attack, physical defense, magic attack and magic defense.

Abilities

Each weapon offers an additional skill to be improved through repeated use. Once the gauge is filled, the skill becomes available at any time, even when the weapon is no longer equipped. The objective would then be to keep a weapon in combat long enough to add new moves to your characters' arsenal.

Materias

As in the original game, Buster Sword has only two linked slots for materias. In the remake, it will apparently be possible to break this limitation, judging by the image of the weapon skill tree. One can indeed notice that the BS has a purple orb. As a reminder, this category of magic only features passive bonuses, such as experience multipliers or maximum HP increases. We don't know yet whether these are assigned or imposed slots and whether this slot could host a summon for example.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake: OST comes in vinyl double LP form

The soundtrack of FF7 Remake is particularly awaited, and for good reason: the music composed by Nobuo Uematsu still resonates in the heart of many players. On its online store, Square Enix offers a limited edition double-vinyl, dedicated to the OST of both games.
